High Sierra Challenge

KISS OF DEATH™ — HIGH SIERRA CHALLENGE BIKE TOUR

California Bicycle Tour in the High Sierra Nevada Mountains

For many years, an epic bicycle ride has been staged on the mountain roads of the High Sierra. It’s called The Tour of the California Alps - Death Ride. Held on one day in July, it attracts 2,800 avid cyclists from across the country who test their fitness climbing the high and spectacular roads of the California Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is one of the most difficult one-day rides in the country.
The Death Ride has become so popular that it sells out months in advance. Many riders don’t get in, and the ones that do get in have to compete with all the other riders for dining, hotel rooms, and space on the road.
In 2003, we thought that a smaller, quieter, but just as challenging cycling experience over the same mountain roads would be a fun alternative. Thus was founded the Kiss of Death™. Instead of three thousand or more riders, we limit it to 14. We challenge ourselves on all of the same bicycles climbs of the Death Ride, plus a few more. But instead of doing them all in one day, we do them over a long weekend.

Leaving on Thursday to lead this tour.  I am Looking forward to it.

Fund Raising

A new way to fund raise for High School Sports?

At badVision, “The New Vision” on wearable action cameras, we think community is important and so are our High School Sports.
The offer from badVision:
“Your Team” takes 25% of the $150 sale from each of our hands free action cameras. Our badVision Team will donate $37.50/camera sold to that participating teams operating budget. (10 cameras sold = $375.00 for the Team)
This type of fund raising is easy to do with no obligation, and truthfully most people are tired of cookies and magazine.

Remember the Name!

“Remember the Name!”

What do you think of our name?
Some of our marketing people / business advisors think we should change our name.  Do you think, “b.a.d.” Is bad for business?
We like “badVision” and feel that it’s a little radical, way cool, a great way to take video.  Do you agree?

Yes, keep the name and click “like” or leave a comment.

No, “bad” is bad for business and leave a comment.

Thanks for the help!

Bike fitting review

I gave Andrea a bike fitting yesterday and received this wonder review from her.  I hope to see more people coming into UDC now for fittings so you can have more FUN on your rides.

Mike Boester

Hi Fellow Randonneurs,

For those of you who would like to enhance the quality of riding long distances by getting a bike fit, I'd like to recommend Mike Boester from Undiscovered Country located in Los Altos off of Foothill Blvd and 280/85 on the Peninsula.  I went there yesterday, with my new cycling shoes and speed play pedals/cleats, and after completing the initial questionnaire, Mike spent 2 hours plus setting me up just right.  He said that when I ride: "the bike should almost be unnoticeable!"

After the fitting, I went for a little test spin around the block, and after my feedback, Mike made some more adjustments, and off I went again.  He asked me to return after I've been riding the bike with the new setup for about a week to provide feedback and make further "fine tunes" if needed.  And best part of all, it isn't as expensive as other places charge for this service.

Mike Boester has over 25 years of fitting experience and works with all types of riders, including race teams.  I recommend him because he's highly concerned about getting YOU the BEST bike fit possible.

PS:  Another cool thing about the store is that if you're in the area, you can just drop in for coffee, nature break, shower, chat, rest, etc.  They also have Full Carbon with Ultegra bicycle rentals available if you have friends in town who would like to ride but don't want to bring their own bikes... For the weekend, it's $90.00 pick up Friday - return Monday!  For the whole week, it's $154.00.  Super Awesome!  For a fee, they'll also deliver the bikes to your house.

I couldn't be happier to have these guys in my back yard.  I'll be stopping in a lot more from now on.

Andrea

A new video on YouTube.

A MTB ride with my daughter

Have you got bad Vision yet?

What is badVision?
A wearable, easy to use, mobile Action Camera that doesn't need extra mounting hardware allowing you to stay involved.

Why “badVision”
With a badVision camera you can get a unique true “point of view” (POV). This could make it fun for the “Huey-Cam”.
Our own experience before badVision, we noticed a lot of people "playing" towards the camera, resulting in not always capturing the intended experience.

Why “badVision”
Our HD HOTSPOT Wide camera is extremely easy to use.  With minimal training anyone can make fun informative videos.
The HOTSPOT series eliminates the need for mounting hardware....  Using the badVision HOTSPOT HD camera is as easy as putting on a pair of glasses!  You'll capture the action totally handsfree after starting the camera, allowing you to stay involved with the action for 2-3 hrs.

Why “badVision”
Simply, “Boester and Daughters”.
Reason number two for the name;
Our main camera product is integrated into eyewear, as people grasp the concept, we often hear the exclamation, "Wow! That's BAD!
As "bad” can also mean “good or radical” the name stuck.

Why “badVision”?
The inspiration, I decided to start “bad” Vision in the Fall of 2009, while in the Stanford ECU Recovery Room.
The reason for the medical visit, I was involved in a mountain biking fall while descending at speed.  I was launched over my handlebars and landed directly on my head causing a head injury, made worse by the impact and force transfer of using a "brick or box" style Helmet Cam.  During my recovery at the hospital I decided that a better “point of view” camera needed to be offered to athletes.

Who enjoys “badVision”
Athletes, Coaches, Parents, Teachers, Law Enforcement, S.W.A.T, Journalist, Travelers, Spectators.
Essentially anyone who would like to record activities for “Work-School-Sport-Play”!
When “badVision” began.
“bad” Vision became a company in the Spring of 2010, offering our first Eyewear Camera, known as the HOTSPOT.
We offer two eyewear cameras and one goggle camera with hopes of developing a live feed camera with zoom and a lens that employs a “heads-up” display for the wearer.  We are also seeking investors who may also have a vision for... badVision!

Best Wishes,
Mike Boester

Raw

http://www.badvision10.com/

I've worked in and around the bicycle industry for 25 years, I started my company badVision in 2010 to help people to share their experiences with an affordable easy to use true point of view camera. I love innovation and I hope you can appreciate some of the video and become inspired to create one of your own. I try to use "raw" footage so that you can see what the cameras do and not the editing.

bad Vision - The New Vision on Wearable Action Cameras

badVision, simply: Boester and Daughters = bad, as in cool, hip, sweet, amazing... well you get the idea.
A lot of people are not familiar with the easiest camera to use that enables the most accurate "Point of View" (POV) on the market today. badVision has been at the forefront of the exciting wearable action camera market since 2010, we had the first HD Sunglass Action Cameras in the USA , released early Spring 2011. Our latest Sunglass Camera, the HD HOTSPOT Wide 170, is the easiest to use and gives the clearest picture of any Sunglass Camera on the market. We hope that you enjoy the video and lose the "box"...
